Update on the Current Situation

On January 23rd, 2016 the StMarkDC Board of deacons sent the following email with the subject “Update on the Current Situation”:

To all the beloved members of the St. Mark’s family,

We apologize that it has taken so long for us to send out an email updating you on the current situation.  We appreciate very much your patience and understanding during this time.  We thank God for the spiritual and prayerful manner in which our church family has responded to these circumstances and we trust that the more we come together in one heart and one accord, the more we will experience God’s healing for our beloved St. Mark’s family.

With that said, we’d like to update you as to where things stand at the moment.

As you all know, last weekend we received a visit from three well-respected hegomens – Fr. Angelos, Fr. Youhanna, and Fr. Moises.  They spent two full days meeting with the members of the church and listening to what everyone had to say.  After their visit, they communicated directly with His Holiness Pope Tawadros and submitted to him the results of their findings.  We have communicated to His Holiness that we are all his children and that we are awaiting his guidance and instruction on how to proceed.  We have been instructed that the full response and process of this situation is under the direction and sole authority of His Holiness, HG Bishop Karas, and the committee of hegomens delegated by His Holiness.

In the meantime however, we will do the only thing that we know how to do during difficult times like this: we will trust in God and look to Him to bring healing to our family.

In that regard, one of the first things we are going to do is to begin a church-wideprayer meeting and Bible study on Wednesday nights, beginning this week, January 27 (weather and road conditions permitting) from 7:00 – 8:30 pm.  It will be great for us all to come together as one family and lay our requests before our heavenly Father and then sit at His feet and find answers.

The other thing, that we ask of everyone, is continued prayers, patience, and understanding.  And please trust that we will do our best to keep you updated as things develop and there is news to be shared.

Your Servants in Christ,

The Clergy and Board of Deacons of St. Mark

Tcopt, I’m sure you’ve seen the interviews on Logos TV regarding the St. Mark situation. Can you interview someone for us in English for those of us who don’t understand Arabic or watch Coptic satellite TV stations? I would suggest Anba Serapion, he’s big on the English language and a very nice man. You can put it on YouTube. FYI, the sattelite TV stations reference your site.

Thank you, Tony! Thank God for starting a church-wide Bible Study again. No church should be without one, even if the number of people isn’t as high as expected. It’s a must, and I was surprised we went so long without one. Great decision!
